What is an ELC?

ELC stands for Early Learning Centre

With more than 20 years’ experience, YMCA WA specialises in early learning, education and care. Our Early Learning Centres are designed to reflect the needs of the local families they serve and are inspired by our Approach to Learning. Our Approach to Learning is inspired by the Reggio Emilia and Montessori traditions, where we view all children as being competent, capable and strong individuals who are bursting with potential and the ability to take an active role in their learning journey.

We believe that the physical environment together with rich and engaging resources play a critical role in the learning journey. Internally our environments are warm and home-like. Externally, our play areas are modelled around nature-based play and creating a love of the outdoors.

In the majority of locations, our day rates are below the national average or below comparable services in their area. YMCA is committed to safeguarding all children and young people in our care. All our Early Learning Centres are run by qualified Directors and staff. We follow stringent recruitment and selection processes and employ nationally recognised child safe practices in our services. All staff receive ongoing training, professional development and the support of a dedicated Family & Children’s Services team.

We invite parents and carers to visit any one of our centres to see our Approach to Learning at work:
